Regional Soil Mineral Profile

What’s in the Soil Around Your Horse?

Explore how your state compares for six minerals and trace elements measured in surface soil.

Based on 4,857 USGS sampling sites.

How the profile is calculated
Source

U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 801, Appendix 2b: surface soils collected from 0–5 cm across the contiguous United States. View the USGS dataset.

State value

For each element, we calculate the median of the measured locations within the selected state.

Percentile

The state median is ranked against all valid measurements for that element in the national survey.

Reporting limits

Less-than results retain their known ordering immediately below the laboratory reporting limit; no precise concentration is imputed. When a state median remains below the limit, the profile shows a national band instead of an exact percentile.

Regional USGS soil data does not represent testing of your property, forage, water, or horse. Percentiles describe relative concentrations in the source dataset and do not establish exposure, absorption, deficiency, toxicity, health risk, or diagnosis. Consult a veterinarian for health concerns.
